Upper Truckee RiverLake Tahoe includes two states; California and Nevada, giving you the option to wed in either state.

On this page you'll find informative details about these two options.

California

There are three ways to obtain your marriage license on the California side of Lake Tahoe.

1. If you are a resident of California, you may bring a Public California Marriage License with you.  You will also need to have at least one witness at the ceremony.  The minister doesn't count.

2. You may obtain a Public California Marriage License from the El Dorado County Recorder Clerk's Office in South Lake Tahoe located at 3368 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Suite 108 in the El Dorado Center. Phone: 530-573-3409. The cost for the Public License is $60.

3. You may obtain a California Confidential Marriage License. This document is NOT a public document, therefore only the married couple can obtain copies.  Anyone else would require a court order.  The fee is $73 ($53 for the license and $20 for the Notary). A valid driver's license, passport, Military or State ID is required.  This is a legal document that can also be issued by a Notary. Most chapels have a Notary on staff, so the Confidential California Marriage License can be issued at the chapel.  No witnesses are necessary.
